Moving NCB to new car?

Wednesday, 10 Sep 2008 13:43
A reader from Luton has bought a new car and wondering what will happen with his no claims bonus (NCB).

Ian Durrell, myfinances.co.uk insurance expert from the Only Group, which includes onlyinsurance.com, tackles the issue.

Phillip from Luton asks:

I have a four years no claims bonus with my old car. I have just bought a new car and have insured it with a different insurance company.

The old insurance company has given me a NCB certificate. Can this certificate be used on my new car since I have sold my old car?

Ian replies:

The only guidelines are that the NCB can only be used on one car, is no more than two years old and was earned in the UK or EU.

It can be used from a sold car.
