Is mobile phone insurance a waste?
Tuesday, 05 Feb 2008 14:46
A reader from London wants to know if she is wasting her cash buying mobile phone insurance when she has home insurance.
Our team of experts at insurance company
LV=
offers a helping hand.
Carolyn from London asks:
I pay £10 a month for mobile phone insurance.
I have home insurance, so am I wasting my money?
The team at
LV=
responds:
Your home contents insurance will cover you for replacing the phone; however it won’t cover you for any calls made by the thief.
Having said this you need to check you have certain types of cover.
If you want the phone covered outside of the home, make sure you take out personal possessions as part of your contents policy as this will cover you while you are out and about.
If you want cover for damage in the home – i.e. you wash your trousers and then find you accidentally left the phone in the pocket - you should ensure you have accidental damage cover.
