Ask the mortgage expert

Will I lose my no claims bonus on my second car?

Wednesday, 27 Aug 2008 16:42
A reader from London is worried about losing her no claims bonus if she has a second car with her brother and he has an accident.

Ian Durrell, myfinances.co.uk insurance expert from the Only Group, which includes onlyinsurance.com, tackles the issue.

Wajma from London asks:

Hello, I have at the moment a three years no claim bonus from More Than.
But now I want to insure my little brother with me on another car with a different insurance company. He is the second driver on the policy.

If he has an accident, will I lose my 3 years of no claim bonus or not?

Ian replies:

Quite simply yes. It is a tricky subject and very much depends on your insurance company and any no claims protection features they have.

But in the event of a claim on one policy you would have to tell the other insurance company.
