Ask the mortgage expert

Moving back to the UK? Can I get a mortgage?

Tuesday, 08 Apr 2008 17:22
A reader from New Zealand is planning to return to the UK, but is unsure how to get back on the British property ladder.

Drawing on years of experience, mortgage adviser Katie Tucker - technical manager at fee-free whole of market mortgage broker charcol.co.uk - takes her through the situation and what it means for her finances.

Lana from New Zealand asks:

Hi, I'm looking to return to the UK and buy a house.

Do I need to have been in the UK a while before I can apply for a mortgage or is it enough just to have a job?

Katie replies:

As soon as you have an acceptance letter for a job, a lender should be able to consider you, as long as you are working in a similar role to the job you have now.

Thanks.
