Halifax: New student account

Monday, 28 Jul 2008 12:49
Halifax is launching a new student account as the academic year starts.

The Student Current Account offers an overdraft of up to £3,000 from the first day of study to the last – compared to other banks that gradually increase overdraft limits over time.

Halifax is also offering two per cent interest on in-credit balances.

Added sweetens include a 25 per cent discount on AA membership and 20 per cent discount on card care insurance.

Mike Regnier, head of banking at Halifax, said: "Our account offers real long-term value. By choosing a Halifax Student Account, students with an overdraft could make a real saving.

"Unlike some other banks we also reward students who use their account in credit - paying them per cent gross interest."

Interest rates on arranged overdrafts over the £3,000 limit are at 7.2 per cent.
