Barclaycard Breathe - a new green credit card

Tuesday, 24 Apr 2007 08:13
Barclaycard is planning to launch a credit card that donates 50% of its profits to environmental profits.

The Barclaycard Breathe credit card will not only offer half its profits to "environmental projects dedicated to reducing carbon emissions around the world" but will also offer cardholders discounts on green products and services.

Barclaycard chief executive Antony Jenkins also guaranteed the Barclaycard Breathe would give at least £1 million to environmental projects in its first year.

"Barclaycard Breathe makes it easy for people to do their bit in the fight against climate change by offering incentives to make being green easier and supporting projects around the world that help reduce carbon emissions," he added.

As well as cash donations, the card does not use paper statements, markets through the internet not mailshots, cards made from PETg - a more environmentally friendly alternative to current PVC cards - and Barclaycard is offering a recycling scheme for old cards.
