Shell and Citi launch petrol discount credit card

Thursday, 27 Sep 2007 17:07
Shell is to bring out a new credit card offering cash back on fuel.

The Shell MasterCard from Citi is also offering a double rebate for those that sign up before November 13th.

Over the 60-day introductory period, cardholders will earn a six per cent fuel rebate and two per cent back on other purchases – the rebate then reverts to three per cent back on fuel and one per cent back on purchases.

Over the first year customers could earn a £52.54 rebate – based on five refills of 30 litres each a month.

Nick Adams, Shell general manager of retail sales & operations, said: "We understand that fuel makes up a significant part of monthly spending, so we have designed the Shell MasterCard from Citi to help our customers get more out of their household budgets.

"We look forward to working with Citi, which is an established global leader in financial services and whose credit card expertise, customer service and reliability are proven in over 50 countries worldwide."

The Shell MasterCard from Citi also offers zero per cent on balance transfers for nine months – with a three per cent fee. The typical variable APR is at 16.9 per cent.

Other card benefits include:

- Motoring benefits – including offers and discounts
- Up to 70 per cent off standard rate motor insurance premiums - based on nine years no claim bonus (provided by Heath Lambert Insurance)
- 30 per cent discount on the standard RAC membership rate for life and free joint cover too (from RAC Motoring Services)
- No annual fee
- Free Citi text message and email alerts
- Active fraud protection
