Newcastle BS scoops finance accolade

Thursday, 06 Nov 2008 12:00
Newcastle Building Society has picked up an award for its range of prepaid cards.

The accolade, which the building society scooped at the International Prepaid Cards Awards, was awarded for Newcastle's array of retail gift, travel, mobile phone and corporate incentive cards.

This was the first ever Prepaid Awards. The event was set up to acknowledge and celebrate the organisations which are driving this growing sector forward.

Firms such as Marks & Spencer, Norwich Union and JP Morgan are among the leading lights in this area.

But Newcastle proved it was equally as strong after receiving plaudits for being the Leading Prepaid Organisation.

Kriya Patel, head of card solutions for the building society, said: "Prepaid cards are becoming more and more common in a whole host of areas, and it is a market in which we have the opportunity to secure further consistent, controlled growth over the next few years.

"We are already one of MasterCard's biggest providers in Europe, and this award will help to reinforce our position as a recognised world leader in the card solutions market."
