Direct Line vandalism no claims protection
Monday, 07 Jan 2008 13:05
Direct Line is launching a new no claims discount protection for car insurance customers who fall foul of vandalism.
The option to protect a no claims bonus is available to all customers with comprehensive cover at no extra cost.
Last year seven per cent of all drivers suffered some form of deliberate damage due to vandalism – with those in terraced houses 43 per cent more likely to face this kind of damage.
"Unprovoked damage to your car is frustrating and distressing enough, without having the added worry of paying for the damage," said Tony Chilcott, a spokesperson for Direct Line.
"Direct Line’s enhanced benefit gives customers added protection at no extra cost and at no risk to their no claims discount."
The chance of facing vandalism increases the longer a car is left unattended.
"The likelihood of your car being vandalised rises significantly if it is left unattended for five hours or more," Mr Chilcott said.
"However, for the majority of people this is unavoidable due to long days in the office or being away from home. Direct Line customers will now get a good deal better and peace of mind if they’re unlucky enough to experience acts of vandalism to their car."
Home Office figures show 32 per cent of all incidents of vandalism are not reported to the police as people feel authorities cannot take action.
However, those making an insurance claim for vandalism need to report it to the police to receive a crime reference number.
