Angelis: travel insurance cover for surgery abroad

Wednesday, 22 Oct 2008 11:26
A travel insurance policy has been launched to provide cover for people having medical procedures abroad.

Angelis has been introduced to offer peace of mind to the growing number of Brits travelling overseas to have cosmetic, medical or dental work done.

Figures show nearly 250,000 Brits per year are heading overseas for surgery. These include 5,000 having fertility treatment, 43,000 seeking dental work and 29,000 having cosmetic surgery.

The new policy, believed to be the only one of its kind in existence at present, provides cover for personal accident or death from an operation and travel and accommodation expenses over and above normal recovery period.

Angelis is the brainchild of Leila Wilcox who, following a serious car accident, experienced long waiting times and MRSA fears whilst having NHS treatment.

Although she had previously travelled abroad for surgery and had received excellent quality of care, she was amazed there had been no travel insurance available for the trip.

She said: "It's amazing people are having surgery worldwide without insurance given the many horror stories we hear. Angelis is the only full insurance products in this market giving people complete peace of mind."

Protection covers all the standard travel insurance terms plus anything relating to the policyholder's surgery. Cover is also provided for out-of-pocket expenses if a follow-up appointment is needed within a year after treatment.

The policy is underwritten by Cassidy Davis Insurance Group Syndicate and ONE Group is handling claims.
