Broadband customers paying £180 too much

A new report into the UK's broadband market reveals that customers could be paying £180 too much for their internet connection.

While the new uSwitch.com survey reveals that, overall, customers are satisfied by their broadband connection, an increasingly competitive market means there are more opportunities than ever to save money when it is time to renew your contract.

And with some of the major providers coming low down the uSwitch survey, as many as 48 per cent of broadband customers could be on the wrong deal.

"It is encouraging to see that the overall level of customer satisfaction is so high across the market," said Chris Williams, broadband product manager at uSwitch.

"With almost half of all broadband users potentially on the wrong deal, this should make consumers feel confident that they have real alternatives to switch to."

Some 4.4 million Britons are set to review their broadband deal this year, uSwitch estimates.

The independent comparison service urges these internet users to ensure they not paying for a faster connection than they need - potentially wasting £180 a year - and that they have the best supplier for their connection in terms of cost and service.

"The broadband market is constantly evolving, and before the end of the year we can expect to see connection speeds increase further and prices continue to fall," Mr Williams noted.

"This should provide an incentive for all broadband users to review their current package at some point during the next 6-12 months and make sure that they are getting the best deal all round."
