Man City fans pay most for their goals

Last season the most expensive place to see a Premiership goal was the City of Manchester Stadium.

Man City fans forked out £46.75 for every goal their team scored, more than fans of any other top-flight club.

At the other end of the table, fans of Blackburn Rovers - who scored more than three times as many home goals as City - paid just £11.25.

Manchester United fans were also big winners, according to the new goals-per-pound index calculated by personal finance site Fool.co.uk, with the Premiership winners knocking in 46 home goals compared with their local rival's tally of ten.

This meant despite having the fourth most expensive season tickets, fans at Old Trafford paid just £14.25 per home goal - the third cheapest price per goal in the league.

"Football fans pay extortionate amounts to follow their team these days, far more than our European neighbours. This league exposes the real value fans are getting from their clubs," said David Kuo, head of personal finance at Fool.co.uk.

"Many of us get a kick out of football, but paying as much as £500 to watch your team put just ten goals in . . . at home is enough to bring a tear to even the most dedicated fan's eyes."

Fans in London saw the worst value - with high ticket prices meaning five of the six most expensive places to see a goal were in the capital.

Arsenal, West Ham, Tottenham, and Chelsea not only had the most expensive season tickets, but did not score enough goals to justify their high prices - with all these clubs joining Manchester City and Fulham in the top six most expensive places to see a home goal.

By contrast, fans in the north-west paid the least for their celebrations.

Blackburn, Wigan, Liverpool, Everton and Manchester United made up five of the cheapest six clubs to see a home goal last season.
