Christmas sales launched at M&S and Debenhams

Marks & Spencer has announced another one-day Christmas sale while Debenhams is launching another three-day event as retailers fight for shoppers.
M&S is holding the 20 per cent off sale tomorrow, both in store and online, and the retailer said many stores will be open until midnight.
Clothes, homeware and wine will be in the sale, as well as Christmas cakes and puddings.
Chairman, Stuart Rose, said: "Our last One Day Christmas Spectacular went down really well with customers. We know that people are feeling the pinch and we want to give them a helping hand in the run up to Christmas."
Meanwhile, Debenhams has started another three-day sale today, following the success of its event in November, competing directly with M&S.
"We're back by popular demand - it's as simple as that," said Michael Sharp, Debenhams deputy chief executive.
"What's more we're not forcing people to shop on just one day, unlike some stores. We've spread these credit crunching offers over three, so customers can shop when it's convenient for them, not the other way round," Mr Sharp added.
Retailers are slashing prices across the high street as consumers cut back on spending.
The British Retail Consortium (BRC) said shop price inflation has slowed from three per cent in October to 2.7 per cent in November.
