Rugby fans travelling to South Africa for the Lion's first test can now take advantage of Travelex's cash passport, it has been announced.

The prepaid cards, which allow travellers to pay for goods abroad, have just become available in Australian, New Zealand and Canadian dollars as well as South African rand.

The move has come just in time to benefit UK rugby fans heading off for the sporting event.

The Cash Passport already offers customers the chance to spend in British pounds, American dollars and Euros.

However, Travelex wanted to cater for an increasing demand for currencies of these other countries.

According to Travelex, sales of South African rand have increased by 72 per cent compared to the same time last year. New Zealand dollars have also seen a surge in sales in that time of 44 per cent.

Steve O'Donovan, managing director of Travelex Europe and North America, said: "There is an increasing demand for prepaid cards which offer a means to control holiday spending, while avoiding unexpected charges and the security risk associated with card directly linked to a bank account."

The Cash Passport is hailed by Travelex as offering the convenience of a bank card with the security of travellers' cheques. It also offers free global emergency assistance.
