Utility company EDF Energy has fired the next shot in the ongoing online price war by releasing two new price plans, according to Confused.com.

The comparison service said the Online Saver v6 is the best buy tariff in eight out of 14 regions and comes with a two per cent discount on EDF's standard rates until June 2011.

It is a tracker tariff, so should the company follow British Gas in cutting its fuel prices in the future, the plan will become cheaper, it added.

EDF's second plan, the Fixed Price 2015, offers customers set rates for dual fuel for the next five years.

While it is not the cheapest tariff on the market, Confused.com point out that it does have the longest guarantee period for fixed prices.

Gareth Kloet, the site's head of utilities, said: "In response to recent market changes, EDF Energy's new tariffs will appeal to both the best buy shopper and those looking for the security of fixed rate deals."

According to uSwitch.com, households could save around £300 a year by using an online tariff compared to a standard price plan.
