Petrol prices hit record high

The average price of unleaded petrol has hit a new record high of 119.9p per litre, according to reports.
Analyst Experian Catalist said that the rise has been partly driven by the weak pound, which makes imported fuel more expensive, as well as the 1p rise in fuel duty from April 1st.
The tax is set to increase by another 1p in October and by 0.76p in January 2011.
RAC motoring strategist Adrian Tink said: "This is a dark day for motorists.
"Petrol prices have been rising steadily over the past year and have now reached the inevitable record high."
According to figures released earlier this week by Sainsbury's Finance, motorists have seen the average annual cost of fuel rise by 10.41 per cent since October to £1,398.
Overall, the bank said that it now costs £2,538.91 a year to run a car in the UK.
Elsewhere, a poll by Unbiased.co.uk found that fuel duty is seen as the "most unfair" tax in Britain.
