Overseas card transactions explained

Spending on credit cards abroad has been explained in a new advice guide from The UK Cards Association and Abta, the travel association.

'Using your card overseas' will provide information for holidaymakers on how to use credit cards wisely over the summer period.

The UK Cards Association found that three per cent of card activity in 2009 was from overseas transactions and this type of spending abroad has increased 180 per cent from £9.1 billion in 1999.

Melanie Johnson, chair of the organisation, said the guide will "help ensure that everyone knows how to use their cards safely and is fully aware of any costs".
