Santander unveils fee-free current account

Monday, 11 January 2010 12:00

Santander's new Zero Current Account is available from today as the bank kicks off the rebrand of Abbey and Bradford & Bingley.

The account, which charges no fees even when it is overdrawn, is available to customers who already have, or who take out, a mortgage with the bank.

It pays six per cent interest in the first year, has an overdraft rate of 12.9 per cent and offers fee-free debit card usage for purchases world-wide.

Plus it promises no authorised charges, no unauthorised charges and no bankers' draft fees. Customers will not be charged for paid or unpaid items either.

It is the first in a series of initiatives the bank has planned to celebrate the rebrand. It is also offering all its current account customers free access to ATMs in Spain.

The bank said the series of initiatives was aimed at giving existing as well as new customers the chance to benefit from being part of one of the world's most successful and efficient banks.
