The launch of a 'super fast' broadband service by BT has been hailed an exciting development for consumers by Broadbandchoices.co.uk.

BT has launched its new 40Mb broadband service with a view to competing with Virgin Media's XXL 50Mb product, according to Broadbandchoices.

But while Virgin offers an upload speed of up to 1.5Mb, BT's new Infinity package provides 2Mbs for its Option One package and 10Mbs for its Option Two plan.

Michael Phillips of Broadbandchoices, said: "BT's upload speed could prove attractive to the type of users likely to purchase superfast services."

BT's product requires customers to sign up for 18 months and costs £19.99 per month for Option One and £24.99 for Option Two.

Mr Phillips added: "It will be interesting to see how much crossover there will be in the homes served by both providers. This will determine the real choice available to the consumer."

He added: "This is a really exciting development for consumers with BT and Virgin Media now offering super fast broadband speeds to people's homes."
