Saving money 'a top 2011 concern'

Wednesday, 29 December 2010 12:00

Britons are keen to improve their financial situation in 2011, with 44 per cent of people polled in a new survey dedicating themselves to monetary matters as their new year's resolution.

The research, compiled by Gocompare.com, found troublesome finances to be the third most cited issue for individuals, beaten only by losing weight and getting fit respectively.

Of those who chose to straighten out their financial situation, almost half want to reduce spending, while nearly a third hope to bring down their credit card debt.

Putting aside enough cash for a new home was the third most popular option, with 28 per cent of the general public picking this as their financial resolution for 2011.

"Money worries are clearly very much front of mind still," business development director at Gocompare.com John Miles commented, adding that the fact more individuals chose this than giving up smoking or seeing more of their family is indicative of the country's economic pressures.
