Scottish and Southern Energy slashes prices

Friday, 05 March 2010 12:00

Scottish and Southern Energy is cutting standard dual fuel gas prices by four per cent or £30 from March 29th.

It means consumers' average annual bills will fall from £1,192 to £1,162, - but this is still 33 per cent higher than in January 2008.

In addition, the firm has reduced its single fuel gas rates by seven per cent in line with dual fuel, making it the cheapest gas-only supplier on the market.

Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at uSwitch.com, said: "Although these reductions are welcome it's important that consumers don't become complacent."

"Energy prices are still far higher than just a couple of years ago and the price cuts we've seen to date are not going to make up this ground," she added.
