Energy bills 'cheaper for web users'

Tuesday, 11 January 2011 12:00

People who are not online are paying £140 a year more for their heating and water costs.

According to research from uSwitch.com, the independent price comparison and switching service, households who use the internet face an average annual bill of £1,010, in comparison to £1,239 for consumers that do not use the web.

Tom Lyon, energy expert at uSwitch.com, suggested consumers may be in for a shock when winter fuel bills begin to hit doormats.

"The concern is that many will react by cutting down on heating and hot water which will severely impact their quality of life," he added.

Mr Lyon advised those who are worried or struggling with their bills that it is worth looking into the other options available.
