Households 'set to be hit by E.ON price rises'

Britons are due to be hit by new price rises from E.ON, despite the energy provider reassuring customers a few weeks ago that it would not do so before January.
This is according to Confused.com's Lisa Greenfield, who noted that "no time was wasted" in the new year after the firm hiked the cost of power in order to keep up with its competitors.
Under the changes, consumers will pay around nine per cent more for electricity and an extra three per cent for gas - which is likely to affect around one million customers.
Ms Greenfield said: "2011 is increasingly looking to be a difficult year for struggling households, especially considering the VAT increase that has just been introduced."
She added that the best way to combat these issues is to shop around for a better deal.
Director of consumer policy at uSwitch.com Ann Robinson said the move constituted "another blow" to struggling Brits.
