Npower customers urged to claim refunds

Customers of npower are being urged to claim refunds for overpayments in 2007.

Some 700,000 people eligible for the refund - which pertains to gas bill overpayments - are yet to claim back the money they are owed, according to Consumer Focus.

The organisation is therefore encouraging these people to come forward, noting that refunds will be up to the value of £100 - something which could come at a particularly good time for households with financial worries.

Last October, npower and Consumer Focus made the announcement that some £70 million in refunds would be offered to consumers who unwittingly paid more than they should have for their 2007 gas bills.

Of that £70 million, over £20 million is still to be claimed.

Chair of Consumer Focus Christine Farnish comments: "It is great news that over £50 million has now been put back into the pockets of over a million people by npower."

Yesterday (January 25th), research from Co-Operative Financial Services and the charity Shelter showed that almost one-third of Britons are spending more than their income on a monthly basis.
