TalkTalk complaints top Ofcom landline and broadband charts

TalkTalk complaints are the most frequently received by Ofcom among landline and broadband providers, the regulator reveals.

In its newly published charts, complaints are measured per 1,000 customers - meaning smaller providers are just as likely to top the list as larger corporations.

For landline services, TalkTalk Group ranks as the most complained-about company, with 1.78 objections lodged with Ofcom for every 1,000 customers.

Broadband service providers are also led in the unhappiness stakes by TalkTalk, this time with 1.27 issues for every 1,000 billpayers.

Ofcom points out that the reporting period, October 2010 to February 2011, includes the time when it was investigating TalkTalk for billing some customers for services they had already cancelled.

By comparison, Virgin Media ranks as the least complained-about landline and broadband provider, with figures of 0.21 and 0.20 issues per 1,000 customers respectively.

The regulator receives roughly 450 complaints per day about telecom firms, with the decision to publish the figures driven by the belief that they will be of use to consumers in determining which provider to choose.
