Brits "taking a stand" against energy price rises

British energy consumers are fighting back against rising costs by seeking out new ways to lower their fuel bills.

This is according to moneysupermarket.com, which said it has witnessed a large increase in the number of people switching their current energy deals in an effort to reduce spending.

Utilities manager at the organisation Scott Byrom said households have responded to the recent Scottish Power announcement that it will be raising its prices - a move that will cost its customers an extra £420 million a year.

"Customers are certainly taking a stand against energy price hikes; a crucial move as apathy certainly won't be rewarded," he explained.

According to the comparison site, the best deal at the moment is with EDF Energy's Fix Saver v2 tariff, which could see bill payers save up to £380 annually.

Mr Byrom also urged consumers to consider switching in order to generate more competition between suppliers.
