One-month warning on renewing tax credit claims

Monday, 20 June 2011 04:04

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has alerted tax credit claimants to the deadline for renewing their applications.

The actual deadline is not until the end of July, but claimants would be wise to lodge their renewal ahead of July 31st in order to avoid the risk of having their payments stop.

Steve Lamey, director of benefits and credits at HMRC, says: "You should be renewing your tax credits by now.

"The sooner you renew, the sooner we can check your payments are right so that you won't have to pay money back."

People who need to take action in order to ensure their payments are accurate and uninterrupted should receive a renewal pack from HMRC, at which point they are asked to respond promptly with the requested information.

Last week, HMRC warned UK taxpayers not to respond to malicious emails offering them rebates on their payments, stressing that it only issues such communications through the post.
