uSwitch warns EDF Energy rises could be next

EDF Energy may be about to become the latest big six energy supplier to increase its prices, it has been suggested.

According to Tom Lyon at price comparison website uSwitch, the news that EDF Energy is pulling its cheapest fixed price plan suggests hikes could be imminent.

"Previously, when the best fixed plans disappeared off the market, price rises have been quick to follow," he stated.

Five of the big six suppliers - Scottish Power, British Gas, Scottish & Southern Energy, npower and E.ON - have all announced charge increases in recent months.

Mr Lyon went on to suggest that consumers could think about fixing their energy bills before further increases are announced, although it has to be borne in mind that prices can go down as well as up.

"Fixing your energy prices offers security and peace of mind, especially for those worried about the impact of price hikes on their household budget. But consumers should be aware of reports that wholesale energy prices are falling, which could bring price rises to an end or even signal future price cuts," he remarked.
