Women turn to bargain-hunting for an affordable Christmas

New research from Tesco Bank has shown that women are proving particularly savvy this year when it comes to doing their Christmas shopping.

A poll discovered that almost 60 per cent have used or plan to make the most of discount vouchers and money-off deals to buy presents.

In total, 46 per cent of female respondents are looking for ways to save cash, compared to 32 per cent of men, while almost two-thirds will cash in things like loyalty points to make their budget go further.

Sensibly, 55 per cent of the fairer sex have been buying Christmas presents each week to avoid one big splurge, compared to 32 per cent of their male counterparts.

However, both sexes appear to be more conscious about budgeting, with 24 per cent insisting they will decide on an amount and stick to it.

Tesco Bank's David McCreadie praised women for being so savvy and suggested using the Tesco Clubcard Credit Card for extra rewards.

Earlier this month, Santander Savings found that £6 billion will be withdrawn from bank accounts across the country to fund the festive season this year.
