Millions of UK households could save £200+ by switching energy suppliers

Britons could be paying more than they need to for gas and electricity because they are not switching suppliers.
This is the discovery of Moneysupermarket.com, which found that it is possible to save 22 per cent on the cost of gas and electricity just by moving to the cheapest tariff.
The figure amounts to a saving of £3.5 billion for the whole of the UK, or £282 per household per year for the average householder.
Site editor for Moneysupermarket.com Clare Francis said there is no reward for customer loyalty when it comes to utilities, plus the recent price decreases will not make much differences given the hikes seen in 2011.
"The majority of UK households remain with the providers who traditionally provide their gas and electricity and are therefore over paying for their energy," she commented.
Ms Francis urged Britons to look for the cheapest deals they can and also to register for online or direct debit tariffs.
According to Ofgem, 58 per cent of gas customers and 57 per cent of electricity customers have never switched supplier.
