Bank accounts glossary

Graduate bank accounts

Graduate bank accounts are current accounts that have been tailored for recent university graduates.

They are designed to ease the financial strain of leaving university and entering the job market.

Interest-free overdrafts of up to £3,000 are available on graduate bank accounts, but these reduce over time.

Graduate accounts also come with associated loan products and credit cards - often at discounted rates.

There are also initial incentives offered by some banks to sign up to their graduate bank accounts, much like students are offered gimmicks to sign up.

It is possible to apply for a graduate bank account as late as three years after graduation.
