Credit cards glossary

Bad credit credit cards

Bad credit credit cards exist for those with poor credit records.

The cards are aimed at those declined cards in the past for being new to credit, having a history of bad credit, being on a low income or being self-employed.

Applying and being declined for credit cards can further damage your record, so a bad credit credit card could help to restore a credit rating.

Bad credit credit cards have much the same features of standard credit cards, such as no annual fees, over 50 days interest free credit on purchases, and the right to have a refund for goods worth between £100 and £30,000 which are not delivered or are damaged.

However, as borrowers are higher risk, a higher interest rate is charged compared with standard cards.
