Pet Insurance

Pet insurance is a financial product that, in return for a regular payment, pays out money to cover specific costs incurred by a pet.

Generally used to cover the cost of vets bill (which can be over £1,000 for some operations), pet insurance can also provide cover should a pet cause a road traffic accident (in the case of a dog the owner would be liable to pay damages normally), and even to cover a legal battle to secure custody of the pet in the case of a divorce.

Pet insurance becomes markedly more expensive once the pet is older. For dogs, many policies will not cover an animal that is more than eight years old, but there are insurers that will.
