Breakdown cover

Tuesday, 14 November 2006 03:33

Breakdown cover provides car owners with assistance in the event of their car breaking down, with a mechanic either attempting to fix the car at the roadside or taking it to a garage.

Breakdown cover can be in place either for a vehicle or for a person. If the vehicle has breakdown cover then anyone driving it can benefit from the service, while covering a person means assistance is available for someone whether they are driving or a passenger of any vehicle and is generally more expensive.

What is on offer from those providing breakdown cover varies widely.

Some policies only provide a mechanic to repair the car at the roadside and recovery to nearest garage.

Others will provide an attempt to fix at the roadside, a lift for up to seven passengers, recovery to any UK destination, help to fix a car at home, and even train tickets a hire car or accommodation if the breakdown prevents you from carrying on to your destination.
