Tesco health insurance 20% price promise

Tesco is promising to beat health insurance costs for customers switching from Bupa, Standard Life Healthcare and Norwich Union Healthcare.

The supermarket is offering a 20 per cent reduction on annual premiums for those switching private medical insurance (PMI) while maintaining a similar level of cover.

Tesco is also introducing an additional level of cover.

The Finest Cover will provide cancer treatment for up to three years; treatment for pregnancy complications and a private hospital transport service, along with no annual maximum cover for in-patient and out-patient treatment.

Jeremy Sutton, head of savings and investments at Tesco Personal Finance, said: "Tesco entered the private medical insurance market to encourage more people to look at PMI by offering straightforward products at prices which offer good value.

"We have price-checked and found we were cheaper than other providers for eight out of ten people. Customers could save as much as £252 per year with core cover and £336 for premium cover."

To qualify for the offer, customers need to have had no medical treatment or a consultation in the last twelve months or no medical treatment planned.
