Am I liable for mistakes at work?

Wednesday, 10 September 2008 12:00

A reader from Belfast is worried about being sued privately if she makes an error at work.

Ian Durrell, myfinances.co.uk insurance expert from the Only Group, which includes onlyinsurance.com, tackles the issue.

Catherine from Belfast asks:

I am employed by a government body. If in my job I am negligent or I do something in my job that someone is not happy with and decides to take me to court to get compensation, what type of insurance would I need to take out to help cover the cost of loosing the claim?

Ian replies:

This is something that would be covered by your employers' insurance.

If you were self employed, then you would have to purchase Public Liability insurance.
