Esure urges skiers: Don't scrimp on travel insurance

Scrimping on travel insurance is not the answer to surviving the credit crunch, insurer esure is warning.

It is urging skiers to ensure they have good insurance policy before they head off for their winter break following worrying survey results showing many travellers are not taking out cover.

Nearly a fifth of people polled in the survey by esure admitted they would not buy travel insurance in an attempt to save money on their winter sports holiday.

And with many skiers choosing cheaper resorts in places such as Poland, esure said it was even more crucial holidaymakers had good insurance policy.

Mike Pickard, head of travel insurance at esure, said: "Less well-known ski destinations such as Poland may be cheaper, but medical facilities and rescue services are unlikely to match the standards of some established resorts."

Esure's travel insurance includes emergency assistance with 24-hour worldwide telephone access to medical emergency support, medical expenses of up to £10 million and kids go free on their parent's policy.

Pickard added: "With more skiers considering weekend breaks and trips to Scotland as household purses continue to tighten, there may be a greater temptation to dismiss the need for travel insurance.

"But any winter sports holiday - no matter how long the trip or how close to home - comes with a certain element of risk. It's crucial to ensure you're fully covered if you have an accident on the slopes."
