M&S creates insurance for independent travellers

M&S Money has added independent traveller cover to its travel insurance policies as increasing numbers of people abandon package holidays.

According to research by the insurance provider, fewer than half of the foreign trips being taken this Christmas have been booked as a complete package.

With so many people travelling independently M&S Money said it is even more important they have the correct travel insurance policy, including cover for events such as airline collapse.

M&S's Premier Travel insurance now includes independent traveller cover has part of its annual multi-trip policy. The cover is also an optional extra with single trip and standard trip travel insurance.

It means travellers who did not book with a tour operator will be covered if their flight is cancelled.

Judith Roberts, M&S Money Insurance Manager, said M&S felt the time was right to improve its policy to cover the many people booking holidays independently.

She said: "If your flight is cancelled you may be unable to claim for subsequent connections, and face the cost of new flights or accommodation. M&S Premier Travel Insurance is one of only a few policies that covers these type of situations that are often not included in traditional policies."
