Post Office: Over-the-counter protection

Tuesday, 02 December 2008 12:00

People taking out protection with the Post Office can now buy their policy over the counter.

The move, which came into effect yesterday, means customers do not have to wait for an application for life insurance to be processed and can therefore receive instant protection.

Among the policies which will now be easier to buy thanks to the new development is the Over 50s Life Cover, which is available for those aged 50 to 80.

Currently, all new customers taking out the policy can claim £20 cashback. Premiums start at £7, and policyholders can choose from different levels of cover.

Duncan Caesar-Gordon, head of protection for the Post Office, said: "In a time of such uncertainty people need peace of mind more than ever, which is why we are now offering instant protection over the counter.

"Thinking about the future and how a family will cope should the unexpected happen is an extra worry, but a simple plan can ease those worries of those concerned about passing on funeral costs and debts."

The Post Office already offers travel insurance over the counter and customers can also buy car insurance, as well as getting quotes, in branches.
