Sainsbury’s has launched two home insurance packages aimed at helping consumers to not only save on their premiums, but also on their shopping and petrol.

Swiftcover.com is launching a new insurance comparison website for motorcyclists.

The firm claims the UK's 1.2 million motorbike, moped and scooter owners will be able to save as much as 37 per cent - or an average of £143 a year - on bike insurance premiums.

The site compares quotes from more than 19 specialist brokers and direct providers, including Devitt, MCE, and Motorcycle Direct.

"The average cost of running a 125cc bike is now £1,540 a year - with insurance being the second largest outlay after fuel," said Tina Shortle, marketing director of swiftcover.

"Not surprisingly, bike owners are looking for ways of cutting out unnecessary expenditure. Our service gives them the widest choice of policies and can help them slash their insurance premiums."
