Flux: Home insurance for reformed criminals

Wednesday, 20 May 2009 12:00

A home insurance service providing cheaper premiums for people with minor criminal convictions has been launched by Adrian Flux.

The insurer has created the fast-response service because people with a criminal record can often face problems getting their homes insured.

And even if they are accepted by an insurer, Adrian Flux said, it could take a long time to receive a response.

Adrian Flux said its service aimed to turn around a quote in 24 hours and offered a cheaper service for people who have been convicted of minor criminal offences.

Julie Carter of Adrian Flux said: "The stats show that people who have criminal convictions from when they were younger are a good risk - they have often turned over a new leaf."

The insurer said it will question potential customers with convictions to see how their lives have changed. This will include asking whether they have a job, are in a settled relationship and if they have children.

Ms Carter added: "All these factors can influence not only our ability to offer cover, but also the actual cost of their home insurance."
