Sainsbury's cuts home insurance by 25%
Sainsbury's is offering 25 per cent off home insurance as it uncovers evidence the cost of running a home has increased in two years.
Analysis suggests the average cost of bills, mortgage repayments and other household outgoings was around £11,455 a year, said Sainsbury's Home Insurance.
This was 2.6 per cent more than the cost of keeping a home going two years ago.
Gas and electricity prices were the main culprits responsible for the rise, soaring by 60 per cent. Council tax bills, meanwhile, had risen by seven per cent. Mortgages payments had fallen slightly.
Joanne Mallon, Sainsbury's Home Insurance manager, said: "We spend thousands of pounds each year running our homes and have often invested even more money on furnishings and decorating.
"Yet so many people are putting this investment at risk by cutting back on their home insurance. Good quality home insurance doesn't have to be expensive."
Customers buying Sainsbury's building and contents insurance can currently benefit from the 25 per cent discount. A further five per cent discount is offered for those purchasing policies together online.
