Saga launches car repair insurance

Tuesday, 23 June 2009 12:00

A car breakdown repair protection policy has been created by Saga to help people claim back the cost of garage labour.

The new policy, which is an add-on to Saga's vehicle breakdown assistance, covers the cost of repairs and replacement parts up to the value of £500 if the customer breaks down and cannot make their journey.

Flat or faulty batteries, starter motor failure or alternator and head gasket faults are among the frequently-occurring problems the policy, which is specifically for the over-50s, will cover.

Andrew Goodsell, chief executive of Saga Group, said: "Whilst the over-50s tend to take better care of their cars, breakdowns can unfortunately happen to all of us and often at the most inconvenient time.

"If you are unlucky enough to have a breakdown the last thing you want is to be faced with an unplanned repair bill before you are able to continue your journey."

The breakdown repair service is subject to a £25 excess.
