Legal & General: Home insurance advice

Legal & General is urging people not to scrimp on house insurance as new evidence shows 28 per cent of Brits are looking for a better deal.

Research by the insurer has revealed a trend during the recession for more people to stay at home, with 41 per cent of Brits admitting they are cutting back by having nights in.

In a bid to save money 30 per cent of the nation is spending less on holidays, 42 per cent have stopped going out for dinner and 28 have ditched making home improvements.

However, the Changing Face of British Homes survey also found 28 per cent are now looking to shop around for cheaper home insurance.

And Legal & General is warning people not to switch to compromise on cover in an attempt to cut back on the household budget.

Gary Skelton, marketing director at Legal & General insurance, said: "It is surprising that searching around for cheaper home insurance is on the list of areas where we could cut back.

"We would add just a word of caution to ensure that household insurance customers are careful and do not find themselves with less than they really need, in return for that cheaper premium.

"We would advise anyone shopping around for a better deal to check the details carefully.
