Travel insurance for medical conditions?

A reader from Essex has two travel insurance polices in place but is unsure how to claim.

Emma Holyer, myfinances.co.uk insurance expert from LV= Insurance, tackles the issue.

June from Colchester asks:

I have annual travel insurance that will not cover me for recent medical conditions.

I have been offered a two-week policy to cover these medical conditions for my coming holiday to Cyprus.

Can I have two policies at same time; one normal annual cover and one for two weeks to cover medical conditions?

Which can I make a claim on?

Emma replies:

You can have two policies at the same time although obviously this will cost more than just having one policy and you won't be able to claim on both polices for the same thing.

Many insurers don't cover medical conditions as standard; however can provide cover at a small additional premium, so if you haven't tried already, contact your insurer.

I'd recommend cancelling your annual policy at renewal and taking out an annual policy with an insurer that does cover medical conditions as this will mean you won't have to pay for two policies.
