Amex: Online deal on travel insurance

American Express is offering a discount for people applying for its annual travel insurance online.

The insurer is promoting the offer as it uncovers research which has revealed a third of people are cutting back on their travel insurance to save money.

It has noticed a shift towards travellers taking out single trip insurance this year, even though multi-trip policies are "more effective", according to American Express.

Chris Rolland, head of American Express Insurance Services, said it was important to have insurance whether travelling abroad or staying in the UK.

He added: "In the short term, a single trip policy might be tempting to cover the family's main holiday abroad because of the price, but they can then be left exposed if they also holiday within the UK.

"If a multi-trip annual policy is in place, this will cover you for holidays in the UK as well as abroad."

American Express's Essential Annual policy currently costs £35.72 for a family travelling to Europe in August and taking advantage of the online discount.
