Saga Car Insurance offers vandalism cover

Wednesday, 19 August 2009 12:01

Saga's car insurance customers aged over 50 will no longer lose their no claims discount if their car is vandalised, it was revealed today.

Bosses at the insurer are providing extra cover for customers because they thought it was unfair people who had been the victims of vandalism should be punished further.

Referring to statistics in recent British Crime Survey reports Saga said there were over 1.7 million separate incidents of car vandalism recorded last year.

What is more it accounted for 17 per cent of crime overall.

Saga said it was therefore no surprise people over 50 had become "seriously" worried about vandalism in their area.

Andre Goodsell, executive chairman at Saga, said: "Being a victim of car vandalism is a distressing experience and we believe it is unfair to penalise people by reducing their no claims discount as a result."

Saga Motor Insurance covers against damage caused by car vandals such as smashed mirrors, key scratches, graffiti and slashed tyres.

Customers who do make a claim will still need to pay the excess and must provide a crime reference number.

The latest addition to the cover will be offered to new customers, and existing policyholders at their renewal date.
