Saga has launched motorcycle insurance for the over-50s to meet the needs of the 21 per cent of the biking population in this age group.
The new policy covers against loss, theft or damage to motorcycles and a minimum of 60 days EU cover.
And customers can also pay for additional cover for personal accident, legal expenses and helmet and leathers cover.
According to Saga motorcycling is "big business" amongst the 50 plus age group. Its research found that of the 21 per cent of bikers who were aged 50 plus, 700,000 owned a bike and a further one million had a desire to be a biker.
A quarter of the nation's over-50s bikers said motorbikes offered a cheaper alternative to driving a car.
Andrew Goodsell, executive chairman of Saga, said: "With more over-50s than ever before taking to the road, it's a great indication that this age group is really embracing the idea of living life to the full."
