More Than: New contents insurance cover for bags

Over £25 billion carried daily by British people in handbags and 'man-bags' is at risk from theft and may not be adequately insured, a new study claims.

More Than Insurance is offering enhanced contents insurance to counter this threat, with new Contents Outside the Home policies which cover up to £75,000 of belongings when out and about, including bags.

A nationwide survey of 1,000 adults conducted last month found that one in ten Brits have suffered a bag snatch, and that we carry an average of £716.25 of goods in our bags on a daily basis.

Expensive electronic gadgets, such as mobile phones or laptops count for a large amount of the total, with sunglasses, personal organisers, jewellery and cameras also vulnerable.

London was identified in the study as the area most susceptible to theft, where 18 per cent of people have been targeted, compared to just six per cent in Wales.

Pete Markey from More Than said: "It is important to be vigilant when we carry so much around - but should the worst happen, protecting against loss, damage or theft will save a lot of heartache and expense."
