Saga home insurance covers gardens

Saga is offering high levels of cover with its home insurance to provide top protection for customers' gardens, it announced this week.

The insurer said it knew how much its target customers, the over-50s, valued their outdoors space and it therefore provided as standard up to £250 worth of garden cover.

As part of its policy, it also covered £2,000 for theft from outbuildings as standard.

And, for an additional premium, customers could extend this cover to include an extra £1,500 worth of protection for any loss or damage to the lawn, plants, garden ornaments, shrubs or greenhouses.

The limit for items left outside, such as patio heaters and barbecues, increases to £2,000 for customers taking out the additional cover.

But Saga said insuring your garden was just the first step in protecting your green space. It urged people to be vigilant and to ensure tools and expensive items were locked away securely over the winter.

Andrew Goodsell, executive chairman of Saga, said: "As a nation we are passionate about gardens and outdoors spaces, but when spring knocks on the door many of us could face hefty bills to replace items neglected during the harsher months, or stolen from insecure sheds."
